How do I reserve a boat, and when will payment be processed?
Browse available watercraft, book a boat online instantly and our team will connect you with the Boat Owner to coordinate trip details. Once you receive the booking email from the owner, review it for complete reservation details. Your credit card is charged in full at the moment of confirmation. Fun Boat Rental does not support split payments across multiple cards or partial deposits.
Do I need a driver’s license, boating certificate, or extra insurance?
Boating Credentials: Requirements depend on regional water laws and the specific location of your rental. Certain areas mandate a state-issued safety certificate or license unless you hire a captain.
Insurance Coverage: Separate third-party insurance is usually unnecessary for renters, as primary liability and vessel coverage are handled via the owner’s policy or site terms. Always review your booking for details for specifics.
Is a captain provided, or can I captain the boat myself?
Both options are available depending on the listing:
Captained Charters: A USCG-licensed captain is included or can be added for a fee, allowing you to relax while a professional drives.
Bareboat / Self-Driven Rentals: You operate the vessel yourself, provided you meet the required experience level and local boating age/license standards.
How does the security deposit/allowance work?
The security allowance covers potential incidental costs like minor repairs, excessive cleaning, or missing gear. No funds are collected or frozen upfront; your card is only billed after the excursion if the Captain deems it necessary.
What are Fun Boat Rental’s policies on cancellations and poor weather?
Cancellations: Our platform fee is non-refundable. Captains agree to a refund policy on our platform that accepts refunds with 21 prior days notice.
Bad Weather: If unsafe marine conditions occur—such as official small craft advisories—trips are generally rescheduled or refunded according to the operator’s safety protocol.
What is prohibited on the boat?
Here is a list of items that are typically prohibited on the boats:
- Weapons of and kind.
- Marijuana or any illegal drugs. US Coast Guard strictly enforces no Marijuana on boats. Even if legal in your state, it is illegal federally.
- Red Wine or Cranberry Juice (stains carpet easily).
- Glassware or glass beer bottles. Plastic cups preferred. However Wine Bottles and Liquor bottles are acceptable as they are hardened glass. Some boats allow Bring Your Own Liquor/Beer. Others do not. Please read the boat listing for details.
- Cigarettes/Cigars generally not allowed. Vapes are usually accepted. Please contact the Boat Owner for details.
Life jackets are provided however please notify the boat owner in advance if you have any children or infants attending.

Listing your boat on Fun Boat Rental is 100% free. Our customers pay our fee, so you don’t have to. We don’t charge any fees to you.
When do I get paid for a booking?
As soon as your run the customers credit card through your payment terminal your bank will process the transaction and make the deposit in your account. If you don’t accept credit cards currently, we suggest signing up with Stripe.com or paypal.com it’s a quick and easy platform that makes accepting credit cards easy.
How are cancellations handled?
Cancellations are accepted within 21 days prior notice from the customer.
What are the safety and licensing requirements?
Owners and captains are responsible for complying with all local, state, and federal laws, including U.S. Coast Guard guidelines, local commercial charter regulations, and proper vessel insurance.
